NeatSpeak for iPhone
Last updated 5 October 2026
NeatSpeak is a voice keyboard for iPhone made by Tidewaterlabs, LLC (“we”), Virginia, USA. This policy explains what happens to your voice, your text and your data when you use the NeatSpeak app and keyboard, and when you sign up for the beta on this website.
Like any keyboard, NeatSpeak sees what you type into it. iOS always switches to Apple's keyboard for password fields, so NeatSpeak never sees passwords. Without “Full Access”, the keyboard works for typing only and can't share anything with the NeatSpeak app. With Full Access on, it exchanges dictation results with the NeatSpeak app on your iPhone through a private shared container. The keyboard itself doesn't connect to the internet.
Deleting the app deletes all of this.
| What | When | Sent to | Kept? |
|---|---|---|---|
| The text being cleaned up, edited or replied to, plus your vocabulary terms, tone setting and learned style notes | Only when you choose the NeatSpeak AI engine | Our server (Cloudflare), then Anthropic's Claude API | We don't store or log it. Anthropic processes it to return the result, doesn't use it for training, and deletes it after a limited period under its commercial terms. |
| The same text, sent with your own Anthropic API key | Only when you choose the “Own key” engine | Anthropic directly, under your own Anthropic account | Never reaches us. Anthropic's terms with you apply. |
| Your subscription's App Store transaction ID | When NeatSpeak AI checks that you're subscribed | Our server, which asks Apple whether it's active | We keep a daily request count against it to apply fair-use limits. We don't know who you are from it. |
| Anonymous usage stats: which steps you reached (setup finished, first dictation, the days you dictated, whether you saw the upgrade screen), the app and iOS version, and a random ID created on install | Unless you turn off “Share anonymous usage stats” in Settings | Our server | Kept to measure the beta and improve NeatSpeak. Contains no text, audio, name, email or device identifier. |
Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details, name or Apple ID.
If you request a beta invite, we keep the answers you give (name, email, role, iPhone model, iOS version, how many messages you send and how you dictate today), the date, and how you found the page. We use them only to choose testers, send the TestFlight invitation, and contact you about the beta. When we add you as a tester, Apple's TestFlight gets your name and email and its privacy policy applies. We delete sign-up data within 12 months of the beta ending, or sooner if you ask.
We don't sell or share personal data for advertising.
NeatSpeak is for adults and isn't directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent age where you live).
If we change how NeatSpeak handles data, we'll update this page and the date above, and tell you in the app before any change that sends more data off your iPhone.
